Believing in Fate vs. Oedipus Cont.

This picture reminded me of how Oedipus's view of his beliefs/religion changed so drastically from the beginning of the play to the end. When he could see, he was a completely different person compared to when he couldn't see. When he could see, he was blind to his imperfections; when he was blinded, he could see them clearly. Oedipus's eyes are very symbolic, so I thought this image was fitting.

  1. Hi Marie--

I am so sorry it has taken me so long to respond to your Big Blog Question! You certainly ask a question so many of us wonder. What influences cause us to choose a particular religion, and why do we change our religious beliefs? I was especially intrigued by your picture of the eye because so many religions rely on imagery to reinforce or symbolize beliefs. Surely the eye as a motif might be a literary element you want to consider in future essays, especially opened eyes that appear to be blind as the one above does!

Great start, and good luck exploring this vital question! M. Ferrill
